Dr. Rick Omer
Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Omer is originally from St. Catharines, Ontario and he graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1980. He was inspired to become a veterinarian after seeing the role veterinarians play in preventing the suffering of animals as a young boy. Since then, Dr. Omer has dedicated his veterinary career to helping animals and their owners.
When he's not in the clinic, Dr. Omer loves cows, baseball, and the outdoors. He and his wife, Marilynn, own Avondale Farms where he has a small herd of Black Angus and Speckle Park cattle. His summers are filled with fishing trips and taking the dogs out on the boat. In the colder months, he enjoys hunting and skiing.

Dr. Maggie Pellerin
Veterinarian
Dr. Maggie Pellerin (formerly Omer-Canitz) graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024, proudly following in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Omer. She has a special interest in senior pet care and is passionate about nurturing the human-animal bond.
Outside the clinic, Maggie and her husband, Brandon, recently welcomed their first child in February 2025. Life as a new mom—alongside the joyful chaos of six beloved cats and dogs—keeps her on her toes. When she finds time to unwind, Maggie enjoys cooking and is always experimenting with new gluten-free recipes.

Veterinary Technicians

Ashley Esterby
Veterinary Technician (in training)
Ashley has always known her path would involve animals. She began working as a Veterinary Assistant in high school and continued in that role throughout her post-secondary studies. In the fall of 2024, she took the next step by starting her Veterinary Technician training.
Ashley has been part of the OVS team since 2021, and fondly refers to the clinic as her “second family.” Known around the clinic as the cheerful “happy distractor,” she has a special talent for helping pets stay calm and comfortable during their visits.
Outside of work, Ashley lives and farms near Watrous with her fiancé. At home, they are kept company by their two dogs, Merlot and their newest addition, Crumbs. Ashley enjoys gardening, crafting, and renovating their farmhouse.

Janie Weger
Animal Health Technician
Janie is a seasoned Animal Health Technologist whose journey has truly taken her everywhere. Originally from British Columbia, she studied at Olds College before working for six years at two equine clinics in Alberta. She then headed to Texas, where she spent 13 years at the large animal hospital at Texas A&M University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
Now happily settled into small animal practice, Janie has found a new passion—especially when it comes to caring for senior pets. Her warmth, experience, and signature sense of humour make her a beloved member of our team.
Outside of work, Janie enjoys spending time with her horse, Wilson, her six cats, and her friends and family. She also enjoys travelling, painting, and pottery.

Aline Lebastard
Veterinary Technician
Aline joined Omer Veterinary Services in September of this year and quickly became an integral part of the team. She grew up in the Cypress Hills area and has been around animals her whole life. Animals have always been her passion, so she decided to become a Veterinary Technician (and we are so glad she did!). Her interests with veterinary medicine are in large animals and reproduction. At home she and her husband have four cats, with her horses and dog being back at the farm. As a hobby, she races BMX and Motocross with her husband all over Alberta and Saskatchewan.
This is your Team section. It's a great place to introduce your team and talk about what makes it special, such as your culture and work philosophy. Don't be afraid to illustrate personality and character to help users connect with your team.
